On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

CBS logo CBS will soon be adding full-length episodes of prime-time series this fall. Did I mention they’ll be free? CBS’ broadband channel, Innertube, launched in May on their website. Beginning in September, CSI (all three varieties), Survivor, NCIS, Numb3rs, and Jericho will be available on Inntertube the day after they are aired on the network. Each will be available for four weeks, with the exception of Jericho and Survivor, which will be available all season. Larry Kramer, president of CBS Digital Media, said that it will “further help us extend the reach of the CBS brand [and] provides a new avenue for advertisers to engage with our programming, which in turn creates a new source of revenue for our company.” Commercial-free versions of CBS’ shows are also available at iTunes for $1.99 per episode. You may recall that ABC first started offering free episodes of Lost and Desperate Housewives last season—this was an initial test to see how much interest the downloads would generate.

Desperate Housewives  Big news for the upcoming season of Desperate Housewives.  It has already been leaked by Marc Cherry that a leading character will die next year.  The show’s creator tells TV Guide that the death will be connected to a supermarket hostage situation.  Several major characters will be inside that store including Lynette (Felicity Huffman).  Expect to see that storyline come November sweeps.  I wonder if this is Cherry’s way of cleaning house??

In addition to the obvious ratings ploy, it has also been announced that a new character will be visiting Wisteria Lane.  Josh Henderson, recently part of FX’s Over There will become a regular cast member.  As Edie’s nephew, Austin, Henderson will be brought on to stir things up on the street.  Maybe he can stir up some new storylines for Mike and Susan?

Desperate Housewives ABC Entertainment president Stephen McPherson promises that the upcoming seasons of Desperate Housewives and Lost won’t disappoint. Speaking to Housewives, he said that series’ creator Marc Cherry has “taken over 100 percent of the show-running and that’s been a terrific change. The early scripts and the storylines and the arcs and the mystery, I think, are a lot stronger from the get-go next season.” I certainly hope so – season two was a major disappointment, but I hung in there in the hopes that it would improve. I stayed until the bitter end, which is more than some fans did. Here’s hoping Cherry’s involvement will keep the interesting storylines coming and character development moving along.
Lost, which has not stumbled in the least (in my opinion) on character and plot, did receive some grumbling from fans about the second season’s stop-and-start schedule. With mid-season repeats upsetting the flow, it was a frustrating wait for each new episode. McPherson says that a new scheduling plan will help – Lost begins on October 4th, then runs for six straight weeks when Day Break, a new detective drama, takes the time slot. Returning again in February, the final episodes of Lost will play uninterrupted. J.J. Abrams is also expected to increase his involvement in the series, and may even direct some episodes. Says McPherson of the scheduling, “We’ve just really listened to the audience about the repeats, and it felt like this was really the best way to run the show. It’s a very, very difficult show to produce. You know, if we could run 22 straight in the fall, we probably would. But we just can’t get the shows done in that amount of time.”

Real Housewives of Orange CountyBravo has decided to renew The Real Housewives of Orange County for a second season, set to premiere in 2006. The reality show focuses on the day-to-day lives of a group of wealthy Southern Californian women, in what has been called a real-life “Desperate Housewives” (or as I like to think of it, “Laguna Beach” for grownups).

Although the show was not an overwhelming ratings topper, it was relatively successful for Bravo, as a basic cable network. Oddly enough the median age of viewers was 34 (meaning that half of the show’s viewers were over 34, and half were under 34). That makes it Bravo’s “youngest” show of the schedule, which is a big deal considering it is about housewives.

Hopefully the second season will have the same success, despite a change in producers. Instead of Kaufman Films and Dunlop Entertainment - headed by creator Scott Dunlop - this season will be produced by Evolution Film & Tape.

The second season will focus on the original women - in addition to some new faces - as it picks up where the first season ended.

Everybody Hates ChrisThis year’s Emmy nominations will be announced July 6 and perhaps new nominating guidelines will make 2006 the “year of the underdog”.

Last year showed some progress, with nominations gained by new hits such as Lost, Desperate Housewives and the recently-cancelled, cult-hit Arrested Development (which won seven awards last year).

Apparently some rules have been instated this year that will give newer shows (and shows from less popular networks, such as UPN, FX, and the WB) an even better chance at getting an award. The new system will allow members of the Academy to choose ten to fifteen finalists (depending on category), later cut to five main nominees by a panel of judges.

A few of this year’s hopefuls include The Office (NBC), My Name is Earl (NBC), Rescue Me (FX), Grey’s Anatomy (ABC), Gilmore Girls (WB), Battlestar Galactica (SciFi), Everybody Hates Chris (UPN), and Entourage (HBO).

Of course, some regular faces will be sure to make appearance on the list such as members of The West Wing and The Sopranos. (Thank goodness Fraiser is off the air, although Will & Grace may return for one last year of nominations, despite the end of the series a few months ago).

The awards will air on August 27.

Teri HatcherTeri Hatcher is quite proud of her nipples. The Desperate Housewives star revealed that and other steamy secrets to Nancy O’Dell in a recent interview.

In addition to promoting her book about self-acceptance, Burnt Toast, Hatcher answered questions about dating and “crazy, wild sex.” She did keep some things private - despite O’Dell’s repeated reminders that they were just “girlfriends.”  “I want to have sex but I’m not going to be specific with who,” the actress joked.

Other topics that came up in the interview were her rumored romantic tie to actor George Clooney and the photos of her kissing American Idol‘s Ryan Seacrest.

Marcia CrossNo telling how desperate she’ll be though. Entertainment Tonight reports that Desperate Housewives Marcia Cross will be tying the knot this weekend, marrying wealth manager Tom Mahoney. The two began dating in January of 2005 and have been engaged since August. Of course, no big details to reveal here for privacy’s sake, but they will be married at a beach front hotel outside of Los Angeles. Marcia recently told Entertainment Tonight that “I’m really thrilled that I met someone that I want to spend the rest of my life with”. Best Wishes!

Grey's AnatomyDisney announced on Monday that ABC.com’s trial run of free TV episodes streamed online has been a success.  The episodes included 30-second advertisements, and, apparently, an online exit survey from the first week of the trial showed that 87 percent of respondents could remember the products advertised in the ads.  Execs are so pleased that a reworked version of the current site will appear in the Fall.  In fact, not only did the free episodes outperform the $1.99 ABC episodes offered on iTunes, but actual televsion viewership increased rather than decreased during the trial period.  The trial run will still end on June 30 as originally planned.  As much as I like the iTunes model, I can see why this is working.  Like my mom says, “If it’s free, it’s for me!”

Desperate Housewives

It isn’t a secret to Desperate Housewives

fans that the mothers of Wisteria Lane have such dramatic struggles when it comes to raising their kids.  From Bree’s traumatic experiences with her son Andrew, to Lynette’s constant failed attempts to control her three boys, these “housewives” are constantly battling to obtain the perfect home and family.

When it comes to Bree, many have found it disheartening to see her kids act so inconsiderately.  Bree has been the ultimate Wisteria Lane homemaker who presents zero competition for any neighbor working towards a picture-perfect suburban life.  From gardening to cooking, care and attention to detail are top priorities for this “housewife.”  Many Sunday nights I sat by my television wanting to knock some sense in to Andrew, Bree’s rebellious son.  His ungrateful attitude really isn’t very attractive.  From the result of the season finale, it’s very likely that Danielle, Bree’s daughter will begin to resolve her issues with her mother.  Although this might seem uplifting, unlike Danielle, Andrew may never discover the reason behind Bree’s uptight way of life.
